About Safehands

Safehands Network Ltd was founded originally in 1997 by husband and wife team Stephanie and Gary Farrer.

The original concept of a nationwide network of child carers began when Gary and Stephanie who are business professionals and parents of 3 children often struggled to find consistent reliable childcare. Constantly being let down at the last minute, they found that their social lives became non-existent. Realising that there were probably many parents in the same scenario, they worked hard to develop a solution to the problem. About the carers

Safehands Network Ltd is a registered care company regulated by the government and works to high legislative standards

All babysitters are screened and registered through a stringent HR process.

As members of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) the HR team are trained and experienced in recruiting individuals, and they are also on hand to answer any questions or administer CRB applications and provide advice on CRB checks.

Safehands Network Ltd is a registered umbrella body with the criminal records bureau and can undertake CRB checks on behalf of others who are not registered. All staff, whether based at the company’s head office or in the social care field are required to have an Enhanced CRB disclosure certificate.

Safehands Standards for Babysitting

• All babysitters must have a CRB enhanced clearance or OFSTED registration certificate
• All babysitters must have relevant child care experience (parenting, child minder etc.)
• All babysitters must have an initial telephone interview, and the outcome recorded and a decision made as to the suitability of the applicant
• If successful, all babysitters must complete an application form and be fully vetted before their details are added to the company’s national data base (HR manager oversees this process)
• All babysitters must be reference checked (2 references)
• All babysitters must have a personal file containing all relevant information/ copies of certificates / CRB certificates /passport photograph etc.
• Followed by a face to face meeting if possible within two months of the initial telephone interview as planned and co-ordinated by the project manager and HR team
• All babysitter must agree the company’s code of conduct and terms and conditions and to display company I.D. badge
• All babysitters must wear a company polo shirt
• The appointed Safehands coordinator for babysitting services oversees the whole operational delivery of services at this level, and works in partnership with the HR team for the recruitment of babysitters nationally, within the necessary employment legislation and standards
• All babysitters are self-employed

Easy to understand rates

We charge one national rate, 7 days per week with the exception of Bank Holidays.

Joining membership fee – for an annual membership fee of £55.00 you will be able to access of network of experience babysitters nationwide at a reduced hourly rate.

Members rate - £7.55 per hour (£6.00 per hour paid to babysitters) + *£1.55 per hour booking charge

Non-Members Rate - £12.05 per hour (£6.00 per hour paid to babysitter) plus *£6.05 per hour booking charge.  Please note a £2.50 non refundable booking charge is made on all non member bookings.

2 families sharing
- Member £11.30 (£9.00 per hour to the carer)
- Non Member £18.05 (£9.00 per hour to the carer)

*Booking charges include VAT

Additional Notes on Memberships
Your family can have access to experienced and fully vetted babysitters for only £55.00 per year. Our annual membership costs £55 paid as a one off fee for 12 months. Every time you book a babysitter, you will only pay £1.55 per hour for the agency fee instead of our standard agency fee rate of £6.05 per hour, giving you a saving of £4.50 per hour (minimum of 4 hours per booking)

*Babysitters on the Safehands register are not employed by the company, therefore, responsibility will not be accepted for carers cancelling or not turning up to a booking. However, in the unlikely event of unforeseen circumstances, every effort will be made to find a replacement but no guarantees can be made.

These prices are applicable for areas outside the M25, Ottershaw and Egham where the hourly rate is £7

This is why the company employs a team who specialise in ‘Tailor made solutions’. Customer needs are examined individually and Safehands expert team are able to assess and provide the perfect solution to the problem… whatever the circumstances!

What is an example of exceptional circumstances?

Example 1:

One of our corporate clients based in London has several single parent employees. These people are integral members of their organisation. Not only is their presence needed in the U.K, but quite often they are required to travel abroad to conduct business. When this situation arises our client knows that Safehands will go that extra mile in order to ensure 100% client satisfaction.

On several occasions we have sent what we call primary carers as far as the U.S.A, Middle East, and Europe to ensure that the clients employee is able to fulfil his/her duties, safe in the knowledge that the child is being cared for by someone they know and trust…

Example 2:

One of our clients is a famous actress, she regularly requires a carer to look after her young son whenever, wherever she might be working. This can quite often mean anywhere in the world at the drop of a hat…

Example 3:

Many of our clients are schools, and we quite often organise holiday clubs and after school care with the school leaders. We are fully inclusive and able to cater for all children’s needs including those with severe disabilities. Also the numbers attending can quite often exceed expectation, which requires us to provide more carers at short notice in order to satisfy OFSTED regulations regarding ratio of carers to children. This may all take place in several different venues.

Hotel Babysitting

It is an offence to leave a child alone when doing so puts the child at risk…

The NSPCC recommend that most children under 13 should not be left alone and that no child under the age of 16 should be left overnight. Leaving children alone includes Baby listening/monitoring services and hotel corridor parole services. They suggest that parents consider the following before ever leaving a child alone:

• The age of the child
• The child’s level of maturity and understanding
• The place where the child will be left
• How long the child will be left alone, and how often
• Risk Assessment associated with leaving a child/children alone in a hotel room/villa/home
• Whether or not there are any other children included in the arrangements
